FAQ

What should I wear?
Weather permitting, the ceremony will be outdoors on a thick grassy area, so ladies, flats or chunky heels are recommended at least for the grassy bit — you can always change into your glam heels once inside for the reception, if you are so inclined! Otherwise, evening-wear is great. This is not black tie.

How do I get there?
Find public transportation and driving directions here. You may also call one of the following car services: Arecibo (718) 783-6465 | Eastern (866) 499-7177 | Castle (718) 499-9333.

For anyone flying in, please note that JFK Airport may have delays due to runways closed during construction. We recommend checking the latest updates before making your travel plans.

Where do I park?
There is a parking lot next to the Garden at 990 Washington Ave. Let us know when you RSVP if you will need a parking pass, and one will be magically waiting for you at the wedding, attached to your table number card.

What time should I get there, really?
Wedding guests will be allowed in after the garden closes to the public at 5:30 PM, but we recommend that you arrive at 6:00 PM to enjoy the garden a bit and sip on some welcome drinks. The ceremony will start promptly at 6:30 PM. Be there or…be there!

What if I have allergies?
While we’re doing our best to use low-scent flowers for our indoor decorations, this is taking place at a garden, so, you know, take your Zyrtec.

Will it be buggy?
Probably. We’re talkin’ summer evening in the city, so there might be some gnats and mosquitos. If you have a certain kind of bug spray you prefer, feel free to come equipped.

What happens if it rains?
You can bring an umbrella, but if it rains, we will hold everything ceremony through reception in the amazing Palm House. (If it doesn’t rain, the ceremony and cocktail hour will be outdoors, and the reception in the Palm House.)

Can I smoke at the Garden?
Despite parts of our wedding (hopefully) being outdoors, smoking is not permitted at the Garden and is only allowed at 15 feet away from the street entrance. So basically, plan to not smoke for 5 hours… Impetus to quit?

What about social media & pics?
We aren’t having a very technologized wedding (we don’t have a hashtag, wedding app, or whatever the kids are doing these days). But, after we’re all done partying, please do share any pictures you took during the wedding via Google Drive to address augustgardenwedding [at] gmail [dot] com!

That all sounds great, but what are the juicy details?
Ok, ok. We’re more into having this website be about the wedding than us, but here are some tidbits for inquiring minds.

Dan is a game designer* for What Pumpkin Studios and Julia is a website designer, musician, and the managing director at Bilingual Birdies.

Julia and Dan met on OKCupid, a dating site which we hope you’ll never have to be on for more than a few months at a time. But then again, good things come to those who wait. After a few years and a desperate willingness to date people out of our previously desired age ranges, Julia and Dan met up in Podunk. (No really, it’s the name of a tea shop located here.) Fast forward through months of talking on dates, fun excursions, and family meeting times, and oh hey, now it looks like we’re spending most of our waking hours together, and having a great time at it. Julia convinces Dan to move to her neighborhood, they throw some parties in their new apartment, work, eat, sleep, all that stuff, and time goes by as it does. Dan proposes to Julia on the street corner where they first kissed; Julia proposes to Dan on Coney Island near the aquarium, the site of their 4th date where Julia started to realize, um, I think this is THE GUY. And now we’re inviting you to our wedding. Partyyyy!

*Note: This means Dan writes and designs interactive narrative experiences, not lines of code. If anyone is writing lines of code, it’s Julia hacking away at HTML, CSS, javascript, and the like.
